What's so special 'bout Friday?
It all began with a dream. I've heard that one before. It's the most popular beginning for any of those breathtaking Drama-O-Rama queen stories. Sorry to say darlings, but that's not how this girl's story begins. It also never began with a typical Saturday or Sunday afternoon with a teenager pouring over her books through the crashing music in the backdrop and a lazy sun overhead. Nah...Her story is by far the most original, and you'll see why in just a bit.
She was dialing in the numbers on a Tuesday evening. She has a normal-sized bedroom that is neither too plain nor too fancy. I guess that's the reason as to why I liked her so much. My name's Hazel Safi, but since I liked being called Sapphire, the name stuck. I can be abstract and that's why Kate likes me. She says that it helps her focus on the various aspects of life which I told her was quite weird for a girl her age. Anyway, 14 is the age where you are too young for your own adventures, but old enough to know that you definitely need one.
People say that opportunities come knocking to your door only a few times so you always have to be prepared. But what can you do if your opportunities lock your door instead of knocking? That's exactly what Kate and I were always doing. I'm the president of the T.F.Y Journalist Club at our school Dewdrop High, while my BFF Kate is our vice-president. Therefore, we were always on the lookout for new scoops.
So again, we go back to the beginning where Kate is calling up Naina Rose, our most trusted scoop expert. Thanks to her and a few other crew members, we've been able to publish the the best stories that Dewdrop High has ever seen for years!
Naina didn't pick up, so I called Kirstin. When she picked up, I heard a soft voice on the other side mumbling something in French, while her poodle Snowball barked a steady musical beat. She was special that way. I handed the phone to Kate so she could handle the call. Three minutes in and it was settled. T.F.Y.J.C would have its next meeting at Richi Buttercup on Thursday. Timings would be given the next day at school. Personally, I could hardly wait. When Kate scheduled a meeting without my permission, it was rare, and she had her reasons. All that was left to do, was to call up the others and inform them too.
There was Charles Vane who is chief secretary of our treasury, Kirstin who is our planner, Naina Rose the scoop expert, Victor the journalist, Daffodil our supply packer, Jake the other planner who usually calls up the places we were going to ahead of time to get things ready and last but not least, Eli our evidence keeper aka the cameraman. Kate and I were made President and Vice-president since we had been in the club long enough to know what to do and when. Even if we didn't, we had Jake and Kirstin as our mentors. Jake and Kirstin are 17, Charles, Daffodil and Naina Rose are 16, and Victor is 15 while Eli, Kate and I are 14. We may be of different ages, but as a crew, we're the thickest of friends you would have ever seen.
It was around 11 PM by the time we were finished so my mum had to come and pick me up at a moments notice. At 11:30, I finally got to close my eyes and snuggle under the warm covers.
Holy Guacamole it was already 7:15 AM!! I had snoozed through my alarms and now I was gonna be late for school. Not again! What would a normal teenager have done in such a situation? Well, that's exactly what I did. 15 minutes later, I was rushing out the front door to the waiting bus with a sandwich in one hand and a stack of books in the other. No time for manners! I huddled in next to my bus partner Macy Listra. Kate and I weren't allowed to sit next to each other for a while since Mrs. Elain thought we talked way too much. I had so many thoughts buzzing around in my little mind and I guess Macy had already noticed since I was left to my thoughts for the rest of the daily journey to school.
We were finally here. Dewdrop high buzzed with excitement as it glistened with the early morning dewdrops and the scent of the earth. I grabbed Kate's hand and flew up the steps taking two at a time and quickly walked the noisy school corridors while tugging Kate and also saying a timely hello to any familiar face. Our 9th grade teacher Mrs. Angela Esther stood at the doorway of our class, greeting fellow students and ushering them to take a seat quickly. Fiona and Suzanne were sitting with Brooke and Layla in the front seats while Eli, Nicholas, Jacob, Michael, Andrew and Kyle were seated at the back of the class. Macy took her usual seat by the window and Alison sat along with her, which left the heart of the class open to Kate and I. Our class only had 14 students so it wasn't cramped. Oh! I forgot to mention the class pet, a Guinea Pig!! We named the little munchkin Perce (Percy + Circe) after what happened to Percy when he and Annabeth landed in Circe. Looking around the class, I felt so much joy and happiness, I hardly even noticed that Kate was trying to get my attention!
Mrs. Esther was looking at me very intently and asked me to pay keen attention. Why-oh-why was only I always caught in my day-dreaming?! Never mind that, as I was saying, Mrs. Esther was saying something about the journalist team and Friday. Was it Black Friday or Friday the 13th? Vampire's Day? No, we did that a month ago, so what was our teacher talking about and what did it have to do with the T.F.Y.J.C? Let me guess. It definitely had something to do with what Kate had planned for discussion at Richi Buttercup because she was smirking at my clueless face. Wait a second, Holy Whoahhh!! How could I have forgotten?!!!
What do you think was so special about the upcoming Friday?
OH NO...How could I have forgotten it!!! Especially when it was me...ME who suggested it...
ReplyDeleteOf course! Its the Arts Festival!
The Festivista Art Festival (suggested by none other than me) is to take place this Friday for all those who love art, and by art I do not mean just paintings and stuff but EVERYTHING...
Music,paintings,dance,embroidery, mimes,dramas and even books!
It is planned to have music shows, dance programs, classic plays, painting galleries and book fair all conducted by the students. I thought maybe instead of looking out for something nice and juicy why not just conduct an amazing event and write about it...
Anyways....getting back to the reality.....OMG I totally forgot about it and there are loads of things that has to be done...I hope everything ends well...Wish me good luck (I really need it)!!
WOW this ending is absolutely lovely!! Mind-blowing even! Wish there was an online fest like this coz I would LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!! Definitely sounds like something Hazel would have suggested!! 😂😜❤
