Letting Go

She kept running only because she was scared. Not only from her thoughts, but also from her life. The only world she knew was falling apart faster and faster and all she ever wanted was to be loved. People she respected were fading away and the people she called home were turning against her. Faster, she went on , trying to escape the darkness swirling around her. She knew this feeling, its familiarity traumatized her. This time, she couldn't escape. Gasping and lonely, she let go. She screamed as the chaos enveloped her slowly, eating her alive. She woke up hysterical in cold shivers just as the dream crumbled to dust. The lights were on and her mother was standing next to her bed. She lay back down as her mother tucked her in after some comforting words. This time, she was falling through a vortex. She landed perfectly fine on her feet and kept running although she could hear the blood-curdling screams loud and clear. She pushed on determined. At last she reached her tower, climbed it with all the last bits of her drained energy and yelled out with mighty power. A single weak light shone out of the black clouds above her and she ascended the staircase that unfolded before her worn-out and fatigued body. It radiated warmth and energy. Only darkness was left behind. Maybe, just maybe, it was more than just a dream.
